Each RSNA/AAPM Physics Module was professionally developed by a team of subject matter experts, led by a physicist and radiologist. Modules are subject to ongoing peer review to ensure content is accurate, up-to-date and of the highest quality.

Please click here for a list of revised modules and key contributors involved in the development and continued management of the RSNA/AAPM Physics Modules.

The modules are designed to supplement physics curricula at radiology residencies and to be a resource for continued self-study by radiologists. The modules are one resource that may be used in addition to other forms of self-study such as text books, journal articles, and other online resources. In addition, educators may find them useful as a framework or supplement for didactic lessons. The modules are not intended to be the primary or sole source of information for residents preparing for board exams.

These modules are available to RSNA members and AAPM members as part of the benefits of membership. If you have questions, comments or would like citation details for a specific module, please email physics@rsna.org

Content Areas (Codes):
The following Content Areas will be printed on the certificate for this module:

  • Physics and Basic Science

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the instrumentation and physical principles of SPECT and SPECT/CT imaging.
  • Acquaint themselves with scanner acquisition options and instrument configurations.
  • Understand the reconstruction process of creating 3D image volumes from 2D planar projections including corrections for scatter, attenuation and collimator effects.
  • Describe the SPECT and SPECT/CT quality control process and image artifacts that may be encountered.
  • Identify clinical uses of SPECT and SPECT/CT including bone, infection, myocardial perfusion and parathyroid imaging.

This enduring material is estimated to take 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete.
